BAR&KIOSK

MALZ  is a craftbeer bar & kiosk in the center of Leuven. With our 12 beers on draft & a selection of 500 beers in bottles & cans we're one of the beer hotspots the city has to offer. 

MALZ  received the silver medal in 2022, the gold medal in 2023 & the bronze medal in 2024 & 2025 in the category "best beer bar in Belgium" at the Beer Awards Digital Festival.

The focus of  MALZ  is craftbeer from all over the world: small & independent breweries making their own beers. We've got the largest selection of fine ciders & meads in town & offer a selection of Belgian (natural) wines.

MALZ  is both a bar & a kiosk. Experience our large selection in our modern but cosy bar or enjoy some drinks on our quiet terrace.
No time to hang around? Or looking for a delicious present? We've got you covered! Take a look in our fridges or on the shelves against the windows. Everything on our menu is ready to be served or to take home. We use discounted prices for take-away.

Be aware MALZ is a cashless bar. We accept bancontact, visa, mastercard, sodexo & edenred. You can pay with card, phone or payconiq. Cash is not accepted.

MALZ is a proud ambassador of Europe's finest producers. 

We always have a selection of PÕHJALA beers, both in bottles/cans as on tap.

 

We work together with local importer GOBSMACK to bring you the best beers from Garage Beer Co, De Kromme Haring, Oso Brew Co, To Øl, Varvar, Anspach & Hobday, Dok Brewing Co, etc. You'll find everything their small "SHOP IN SHOP": the yellow fridge.

We only accept reservations for groups of 6 or more people.

We welcome smaller groups to just come by & grab a table. During busy moments, mostly on friday evenings, we help you as best as possible. You might have to wait at the bar for the first drink.

Due to the smaller living room vibe of  MALZ, reservations for groups larger than 15 people are not possible. 

  GUIDED TASTINGS  

    

Teambuilding, birthday or stag party? Book your guided tasting with us! 

Tastings are available for groups from 8 to 16 people & can be organized during weekdays between 10h & 22h. 

Tastings are available in Dutch & English.

During such a tasting we serve you four different beers  (15cl), accompanied by a small bite. We walk through the entire beer landscape in two hours, jump from style to style & combine flavours with each other.

 

This beer & food tasting costs €36 p.p.

You can also opt for a tasting without the bites  -  €24 p.p.

JOREN

opened MALZ in 2021. It was his dream for many years to open his own place. He enjoyed many beer trainings, from beer server, beer & food pairing, & beer taster to microbrewer & cicerone.

His favourite beer style is lambic, but he'll drink just about any style.

You'll find him behind the bar on Friday & Saturday.

LAURA

LAURA

started working in MALZ in 2023. She is a city guide & a zythologist. You can ask her any fun facts about Leuven & beer.

She loves wild ales, very bitter IPA's & dry ciders.

She's pouring beers on Thursday night & once a month on Monday.

SARAH

came in for a date & stayed for a job! She started at the beginning of 2025 & has been enjoying the company of beer lovers from all over the world ever since.

Whenever she sits on the other side of the bar, she’ll be enjoying a tasty blond / tripel or a (ne)ipa.

 

You’ll find her pouring your drinks & bopping along to the music on Wednesday night.

RYAN

hailing from Chicago, moved to Leuven in 2016 & has been a part of the MALZ team since late-2023.

 

He enjoys refreshing lambic-style sours & hoppy IPAs during Leuven's warmer months, & heavy, dark porters, stouts, & BA beers when the temperature drops.

He's tending to your needs on Friday night, together with Joren.

GLENN

joined MALZ in 2024. He is always down for a chat about anything & definitely about beer. He has a tattoo of a hop cone on his right arm (enough said).

 

He doesn't have a favourite beer style, but he is very fond of New Zealand hops, especially Nelson Sauvin.

He's your guy on Sunday.

WOUTER

is a true beer geek & wanted to do something with his hobby, so started working in our kiosk in 2025.  He transferred to the bar a bit later.
Wouter is also one of the quiz masters during our pub quiz.

He will try everything but has a soft spot for classic styles & barrel-aged stouts.

He'll be behind the bar on Thursday afternoon.

MALZ is always looking for passionated people with a broad view on beers, ciders, meads & hospitality, who love to spend their time on either side of our bar.

No matter your age, gender or any kind of background. But if you rather chug lukewarm Cara Pils, we're maybe not the place for you!

MALZ works mainly with flexi-jobbers. Before applying, please check mycareer.be to see if you qualify.

TYPE OF JOBS:

  1. Bartender. 
    Bartenders at MALZ enjoy a lot of responsibility & independence, after a period of training by Joren. In most cases you're covering the bar by yourself during a whole day, or part of a day. You welcome all customers with a smile & an "hello!" & tend to their (beer related) needs. You manage the bar: keep everything tidy & clean, change kegs when needed, prepare food & eventually close the bar. Shifts mostly are 6 to 8 hours. Bartenders need to be fluent in both Dutch & English. We welcome additional languages as well of course.

    Next to your fixed (weekly/monthly) shift you're able to work extra shifts whenever another team member is sick or on holiday.

     

  2. Cleaning Staff.
    MALZ is cleaned every morning before the bar opens. You work alone & are responsible for getting the bar ready for another day: cleaning toilets, the bar & tables, vacuuming & mopping the floor, opening up the terrace, watering the plants, restocking, etc. Shifts are 2 to 3 hours per day. We ask to at least combine two shifts per week. Cleaning Staff needs to be fluent in either Dutch or English.

  • cleaning staff (weekly, on Wed/Thu/Fri - combining at least two days)
